2. Fall, Fall, and more Fall --
3. Gittin' 'er Done Some More -- This isn't *that* blog, so there are no "before" pictures here, but in the past couple of months we've created a cabinet to house some of our kitchen overflow out of a craigslist find and a coffee table out of some old bookshelves. I hate to sound all D.I.Y. and stuff, but making/re-making your own furniture does turn out to be very satisfying.
4. More Ben Shive -- This guy is the most brilliant musician you've never heard of (unless you paid attention several weeks ago when I talked about his song, "Fourth of July"). Really people, go and download his most recent album The Cymbal Crashing Clouds (available from noisetrade.com here). The first track, 'Listen" will knock you sideways with its depth and virtuosity. You can listen to and read about it here. The rest of the album will carefully put you back together, ending with the heart-breakingly beautiful "A Last Time for Everything." Read and listen here.
5. Apples Not Falling Far From Trees -- Last night, I went in to check on the boys a few minutes after putting them to bed. Calum was reading A Bear Called Paddington:
Or was he. . . ??
[It is not unusual that, right as I am going to sleep, I hear a loud and unexpected CLUNK from the book that I was reading a moment before hitting the ground, having fallen out of my fingers. I am always a little bit startled and a little bit bewildered when this happens -- wasn't I just reading that? It is also not unusual to find Calum fast asleep with a book clutched in his fingers, no doubt convinced that he's just resting his eyes for a minute.]
